The M14/M1A/M305 "SHG MOD II" (Scout Hand Guard) replaces the original M14 hand guard and offers a sturdy, reliable, ultra-low 1913 Picatinny forward optics mounting platform for your M1A/M14/M305 rifle. It is designed to index perfectly on an M14 with a Standard Contour barrel only: Medium and Heavy Weight barrels are not supported. The SHG can be installed to M14.ca Blackfeather "RS" equipped rifles, however, the SHG can also be used with other M14/M1A/M305 rifle stocks (see photo below of a Boyd's wood stock for example). The SHG Picatinny rail is approx. 12.625" long and mounts as low as the top flat of your M14 receiver at the barrel ring. It includes mounting points at 10 oclock and 2 oclock for M-LOK accessories, sold separately. 
The SHG railed hand guard is designed to be as low as possible and as light as possible, while still retaining rigidity, strength, and long term durability. It is CNC precision machined from aircraft grade 6061 alloy. Including the three steel barrel clamps and screws, the SHG hand guard weighs just 5.1 ounces. This is approximately only twice the weight of the issue GI fiberglass hand guard it replaces. The SHG is designed to maintain an optically precise alignment with the bore. It will maintain zero of precisely aligned optical equipment even when the upper part of the rifle [ barrel / receiver groups with SHG attached ] is removed for cleaning or for "swapping." It is ideally suited to long eye releif scopes and forward mounted red dots for fast, both eyes open targeting.
